recipe + inspiring images

4.30.2013

I shared a pic on Instagram last week of a pound cake that I made and several people asked for the recipe. I figured the blog was the best place to share it. If you are a fan of lemon (this isn't too strong) then I would highly recommend this. Only changes is I baked for 1 hour 10 minutes in my convection oven on 350. Let me know if this doesn't enlarge/or if it's too hard to read.

Mixed in with a recipe are these images that have caught my eye!

a pop of green

4.22.2013

As I posted last week I've been drawn to lots of black and white in design lately. I love a neutral palette (surprise, surprise) but also a pop of color mixed in from time to time adds just the right amount of detail. This kelly green works great in these otherwise neutral rooms!

it's in the details

Most often you see a design come together with the little details that add so much to space. Here are a few that I've noticed lately that are great to keep in mind when working on things around your home. I love adding a contrasting fabric or color for the cording on a pillow or piece of furniture or adding a wide flat trim to the edge of window panels. Another favorite detail lately is pom pom trim on pillows... such a fun addition to spice things up!

black + white

After looking through some of my latest pins I realized that I have been drawn to a lot of black and white when it comes to design. Here are a few of my favorites.

bham :: cute house for rent

4.04.2013

*Our house has been rented. Thanks to all for contacting me or referring friends my way!

Hi friends! Our renters are moving out after two years (sadly they are moving to another town) so our house will be up for rent as of June 1st! I'm trying to get the word out to see if you or anyone you know is looking for a great house in Birmingham to rent.

It's a 3/2 in Crestwood just a couple of miles from UAB, the villages of Mountain Brook, Homewood, etc. Great location with easy access to most areas without having to get on the Interstate.

Please pass this link along to anyone who might be interested and have them email me at brookechamblee@gmail.com. Thank you!

kitchen instagram board details

3.18.2013

I've gotten a lot of emails/questions on Instagram about the photo board in my kitchen/keeping room.

I finally finished it off with some current photos this weekend and snapped a few pics of it. I used the Postal Pix App to print my Instagram pics off of my iphone in the 4x4 size and used straight pins to attach them to the board.

The board is a piece of foam insulation from Lowes that I wrapped in a linen fabric--- you can see a piece of the linen peeking through below. I then had the guys at Lowes cut some flat trim (I think it's lattice) and I spray painted it gold. I used small finishing nails in the corners to attach the pieces together to make a frame.

A very simple yet affordable way to fill up some wall space in my kitchen. Plus I love seeing these photos many times a day when I walk by!

prime meridian

3.08.2013

Prime Meridian is one of my favorite cookbooks (and not just because it's from my hometown). There are so many great things that I enjoy making over and over. Here are a few of my favorite desserts that I told some of my Instagram friends that I would share!

This is a staple in our house. I make this a lot when taking dinner to friends. It's quick, easy, and delicious!
